Commemorating 51 Years of the Peace Operation: Unity and Determination of the Turkish Cypriot People
On a historic evening in the beautifully landscaped front garden of the Republican Assembly, President Ziya Öztürkler and his wife, Oya Öztürkler, warmly welcomed prominent leaders and dignitaries to a reception marking the 51st anniversary of the Peace Operation.
The event brought together a powerful assembly of political figures and honored guests, including Main Opposition CTP Chairman Tufan Erhürman, ministers, members of parliament, Turkish Minister of National Defense Yağar Güler, and leaders from the Saadet, Democratic Left, and Anahtar parties. Also in attendance were representatives from the Azerbaijan-Turkey and Azerbaijan-TRNC Friendship Groups, high-ranking Turkish military commanders, and distinguished guest delegations.
Guests were treated to a vibrant folklore performance and a moving video presentation reflecting the spirit and history of this significant day.
In his heartfelt speech, President Öztürkler underscored that July 20 is far more than a military anniversary—it marks the day the Turkish Cypriot people secured their right to self-determination, freedom, and a safe future. He expressed deep pride in celebrating this milestone within the new Republican Assembly building, a symbol of ongoing support from the Republic of Türkiye.
Honoring the bravery of Turkish Cypriot Mujahideen and the heroic Mehmetçik, Öztürkler paid tribute to the martyrs and veterans whose sacrifices shaped their freedom. He reaffirmed the unyielding spirit of the Turkish Cypriot people, stating that neither past military force nor continued isolation has diminished their determination. The president emphasized that Turkish Cypriots rightfully claim their place on the island, living sovereignly and freely beneath their own flag.
Looking ahead, Öztürkler reaffirmed the commitment to seek a just and lasting solution for Cyprus, grounded in the fundamental rights, sovereign equality, and international status of the Turkish Cypriot people. He stressed that any agreement must honor their identity and statehood.
The commemoration concluded with a touching homage to the Founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş, freedom fighter Dr. Fazıl Küçük, and all martyrs who sacrificed for existence and liberty. The evening ended on a celebratory note with a concert by renowned artist Ayşegül Zaim and a photo exhibition commemorating the day’s enduring significance. northcyprusinvesting.com, Investra.io
