My Life as a Student in Famagusta, North Cyprus
By: A Tourism Management Student at EMU
Life in North Cyprus as a student is anything but boring. Every day brings its own rhythm, good energy, and a sense of community. Here’s what a typical day looks like for me as a student of Tourism Management at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) in Famagusta.
☀️ Morning: Early Start & First Lectures
My day starts around 7:00 AM. I get ready for class, have something quick for breakfast, and leave for campus. My first lecture usually begins at 8:30 AM, so I like to be out the door on time — thankfully, everything is close because I live in a student dorm just off campus.
By 12:20 PM, my morning classes are over. That’s when I take a break and usually go grab a coffee with my friends. There are so many cafés around EMU and on campus itself — it’s a fun little ritual that helps us recharge for the second half of the day.
📚 Afternoon: More Classes, Lunch & Campus Life
After our coffee break, I have two more lectures in the afternoon. Classes at EMU are very engaging — the professors are experienced, and since students come from all over the world, the discussions are super diverse and interesting.
Once I’m done with lectures, I usually head back to my dorm and make lunch. The EMU campus is huge — it feels like a small town full of life. There’s always something happening, and the energy is really positive.
🏋️♀️ Evening: Gym, Groceries & Study Time
After lunch, I like to hit the gym. EMU has 4–5 gyms across campus, and they’re all pretty modern and convenient. It’s great that they’re right on campus because I don’t have to waste time commuting — I can just change and go.
Once I’m done with my workout, I usually do my weekly grocery shopping, then head back to the dorm to rest a bit. In the evening, if I have a project to prepare or something to study, that’s when I’ll sit down and focus.
🌙 Night: Fresh Air & Wind Down
After all the studying, I love going for a short evening walk — the air in Cyprus is incredibly fresh, and the nights are peaceful and cool. It’s the perfect way to end the day.
💬 What I Love Most About Studying in North Cyprus
What I truly love about life here is how safe, clean, and welcoming it feels. The culture is warm and cheerful, and even though I’m far from home, I genuinely feel like I belong here. EMU is not just a university — it’s a community. And Cyprus has become my second home.
