Historic milestone for North Cyprus travel as direct UK flights to Ercan Airport launch under £250. A major step for tourism, TRNC visibility, and Turkish Cypriot diaspora.
Big Win for North Cyprus: Direct UK Flights to Ercan Airport Take Off with £250 Cap
In a breakthrough moment for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), direct flights from the UK to Ercan Airport have officially begun — and with fares capped at just £250, they’re making headlines across the travel world.
The announcement came during a special launch event in London, part of AJet’s Island Cyprus Project, attended by key political and diplomatic figures including TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, Türkiye’s Trade Minister Ömer Bolat, TRNC Tourism Minister Fikri Ataoğlu, and Turkish Ambassador to London Osman Koray Ertaş.
“A New Chapter for Northern Cyprus Travel”
Prime Minister Üstel called the moment the start of a new era, declaring:
“Southern Cyprus will no longer be the preferred route for flights.”
TRNC Tourism Minister Ataoğlu emphasized that the new, affordable route is expected to shift British tourist traffic from South Cyprus to the North, especially as Larnaca Airport prices continue to climb beyond £350 during peak seasons.
More Than Just Tourism: A Step Toward Recognition
For decades, Turkish Cypriots have faced restrictive aviation policies, requiring all international passengers to route through Türkiye. This initiative is a significant breakthrough — not just for tourism, but for the global visibility and recognition of Northern Cyprus.
With UK-based Turkish Cypriots and British tourists finally getting a direct and cost-effective way to reach Ercan, the barriers to visiting this unique and historically rich destination are beginning to break down. northcyprusinvesting.com, Investra.io
