The Minimum Wage Determination Commission in Northern Cyprus will hold its second meeting for 2025 on Friday, July 18, to decide the next minimum wage increase.
According to an official statement from the Ministry of Labor and Social Security’s Press Office, the commission will convene at 11:00 a.m. at the Ministry’s headquarters. The previous meeting started at 11:30 a.m. and concluded at 1:15 p.m.
Minister Gardiyanoglu’s Statement
After the last meeting, Minister of Labor and Social Security Sadik Gardiyanoglu shared that inputs were received from both employer and employee representatives. He emphasized that the upcoming minimum wage will reflect proposals from both sides and is expected to be effective retroactively from July 1, 2025.
Gardiyanoglu highlighted the importance of consensus, stating that while pressures exist on both sides, the goal remains to ensure fairness and productivity through a balanced wage adjustment.
Employers’ Perspective
Cengiz Alp, representing the employers, affirmed their commitment to responsible negotiations aimed at the best outcome for all stakeholders. He pointed out that the country has roughly 160,000 employees and more than 20,000 employers, expressing confidence that a final decision will be reached in the upcoming meeting.
Workers’ Viewpoint
Ahmet Serdaroglu, President of the Federation of Free Trade Unions (Hür-is), described the prior meeting as constructive and respectful. He praised the sensitivity of all parties and the ministry for providing necessary data to inform the discussions.

The final decision on the new minimum wage, effective retroactively from July 1, 2025, will be announced after the July 18 meeting.
