A new digital era begins in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) as Türkiye introduces its cutting-edge TAKBIS land registry system, promising faster real estate transactions and smarter urban planning.

Digital Revolution in TRNC: Türkiye Brings TAKBIS Land Registry System to Northern Cyprus
In a key step toward modernization, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has officially begun the rollout of the TAKBIS digital land registry and cadastre system, a major upgrade introduced through close collaboration with Türkiye.
The announcement came during the official visit of Minister of Interior Dursun Oguz to Ankara, where he met with Türkiye’s Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Murat Kurum. Highlighting the occasion, Minister Kurum declared that the system—used successfully in Türkiye for many years—is now being implemented in the TRNC, marking a transformative milestone in land management.
“We have transferred the digital land registry system, successfully applied for years in Türkiye, to Cyprus. TAKBIS will enable much faster real estate transactions in the TRNC,” Kurum stated.
Faster Real Estate, Smarter Cities
The TAKBIS system (Land Registry and Cadastre Information System) will not only streamline property transactions but also lay the groundwork for more effective urban planning and disaster resilience. The project is being deployed in cooperation with Türkiye’s General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre, ensuring top-tier technical expertise.
In addition to land registry reform, a mobile-accessible parcel inquiry system is also being introduced to make property data more transparent and accessible to the public.
3D Mapping & Urban Simulations Begin
Kurum further revealed that aerial imaging of TRNC cities has been completed, and work has started on creating 3D digital models. These “digital twins” of urban areas will enable future simulations, helping local authorities plan for natural disasters and climate risks more effectively.
“By creating digital twins of our cities, we are laying the foundation for simulations that will help prepare our urban areas for disasters,” Kurum noted.
Türkiye’s Ongoing Support for Environmental Sustainability
The collaboration doesn’t end with land reform. Minister Kurum reaffirmed Türkiye’s long-term support for environmental initiatives in the TRNC, particularly in waste management and sustainability.
“Our goal is to eliminate all waste in the TRNC in line with the Zero Waste principle,” he said.
This powerful partnership is not only modernizing systems in Northern Cyprus but also strengthening Turkish-Cypriot ties, with a shared vision for a greener, smarter, and more digitally advanced future.
