TRNC Labour Ministry Announces Midday Work Ban to Protect Workers During Heatwave
With temperatures forecasted to soar above 40°C, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has issued a temporary ban on outdoor work during the hottest part of the day — from 12:00 to 16:00, between August 11 and 15, 2025.
The decision, made under Article 36 of Law No. 22/1992 “On Occupational Safety”, is a preventive health measure to reduce the risk of heatstroke and heat-related illnesses among outdoor workers.
🏗️ Who’s Affected?
The restriction applies to all outdoor work, especially in sectors like:
- Landscaping
- Road work
- Outdoor maintenance
- Public service duties
However, exceptions apply for essential sectors like agriculture and construction, where employers are encouraged to shift working hours to early mornings to ensure tasks are completed before the midday heat.

- Calling the ALO 102 labour hotline
- Messaging 0539 109 5050 via WhatsApp
- Providing the exact location and, if possible, a photo of the violation
⚠️ Fines & Monitoring
- Authorities will actively monitor compliance during the ban period.
- Fines and penalties will be imposed on employers who violate the ban.
- The Ministry reminds employers that workers’ health must come first, especially under life-threatening weather conditions. northcyprusinvesting.com, Investra.io
