Starting next week, Southern Cyprus police will patrol with tablets connected to Interpol and Schengen databases. Learn how this digital step supports Schengen integration.

Southern Cyprus Launches Digital Policing with Interpol Access
Beginning next week, police officers in Southern Cyprus working in crime prevention will patrol with tablets directly linked to the central police information system, Interpol, and the Schengen Information System (SIS).
According to Philenews, this move will allow real-time identification of individuals, enabling faster checks and streamlined criminal detection.
⚡ Instant Interpol Alerts & Schengen Data
The new “CY Patrol Check” web app installed on the tablets will allow officers to:
- Instantly identify individuals flagged on Interpol’s stop or alert lists
- Access the Schengen Information System for stolen vehicles and items
- Eliminate reliance on back-office support for checks
🎓 Training & Knowledge Transfer
Training for this technology began in July 2025 at the Greek Cypriot Police Academy. Officers who completed training are now tasked with passing their knowledge to colleagues in their units.
To ensure accountability, unit managers will need to submit tablet usage and audit reports every 15 days.
🌍 Schengen Membership & Strategic Importance
This mobile policing strategy is part of a wider modernization plan and a key criterion for Schengen compliance. The European Commission will evaluate and monitor the process regularly.
Philenews highlighted that joining the Schengen Area remains of strategic importance for the Greek Cypriot administration, with a long-term plan (2026–2028) focusing on:
- Comprehensive border management
- Preventing illegal crossings
- Combating smuggling and irregular immigration
🚓 A Step Toward Digital Policing
Recent tenders and investments show the Greek Cypriot Police’s commitment to accelerating digital transformation. The rollout of tablets marks a major milestone in their modernization strategy and a step toward Schengen membership. northcyprusinvesting.com, Investra.io
